Today’s Page Brief features characters from Perfect Partner, Rowan, Book #7. Enjoy!

From time to time there’s multi-part Page Brief’s that go together. I think of it as a Page Brief Serial and I name them. The below Page Brief Serial Chosen by You features the books at the time I wrote these Page Brief’s that were available in my Rowan series. Eventually when books are released in the Rowan series an Page Brief might be written and if it is it will be added to the Chosen by You Page Brief Serial. So this Page Brief Serial is a continuous one (at my discretion/time permits).

Chosen by You is a multi-part Page Brief Serial and best read in order for the most enjoyment. They are usually in order of the Rowan series for which they are written about (unless otherwise noted).

“How do you get yourself into this sort of thing?” The words were followed by a groan.

Sinclair braced himself not knowing what he was about to find. A small smile curled his lips. Being in love with a woman who was accident prone was never boring. As he came out of the house, he stopped then blinked sure he was seeing things.

“This is your fault Sampson.” Lou said.

Sampson hung his head as if sorry while Delilah comforted him. Sinclair walked across the porch then shook his head.

“How am I going to explain this to Doc Sin?” Lou sighed. “You all are messing up my streak of no accidents. Wait he doesn’t need to know. I’m not hurt so it’s good.”

“Louisa.” Sinclair tried not to laugh.

From where she lay Lou groaned and put her arm over her eyes. “If we’re real still maybe he won’t see us.”
Sampson and Delilah looked at him going very still. Sinclair chuckled as he walked towards them. He sat crossing his legs under him on the ground next to Lou.

“Shame on you for teaching them to lie to their daddy.” Sinclair winked. “Let me guess what happened. You were playing with Delilah and Sampson was mad you weren’t playing with him.”

“Awww…you love my kids.” Lou rolled her eyes. “You think you’re funny.”

“Reminds me of how we met.” Sinclair smoothed her hair back from her face. “If I recall you called me Doc Sin at that time even though you didn’t know my name yet.”

Lou smiled softly. “Yeah. You looked so damn sexy and sinful.”

“And you were all cute as you tried to defend Sampson for the cut you had.” Sinclair looked at Sampson. “I thought we talked about this. Be patient. You’ll get your turn.”

Sampson hung his head. Delilah rubbed her head against his in sympathy.

“You’re so hot when you get all lecturey with them.”

“Not that it does any good.” Sinclair sighed. “They don’t listen.”

“Well for a bull and cow it’s amazing that they stand still long enough for you to lecture them.” Lou lifted her arm from over her eyes. “They probably are wondering what the hell you’re saying. I did tell you when we meet, they don’t like people much, so they won’t listen to you. Although they like you now. Listening to you…well don’t get your hopes up.”

“Why is it when I talked to them, they don’t understand but when you do they understand you.” Sinclair frowned.

“I’ve been talking bull and cow longer than you have.” Lou smiled at him. “I’m fine. Really. No injuries.”

“This time.” Sinclair studied the woman who had captured his heart. “What am I going to do with Lou?”

“The same thing I do with you, “she reached for his hand and kissed his knuckles. “Love each other. And in my case love my animals, my quirkiness, and so on.”

“In my case put up with my well you know what.” Sinclair looked at Sampson and Delilah. “Not a word out of you two.”

“I just love that you have taken on my habit of talking to them.” She laughed.

Sinclair chuckled and leaned over. She lifted her head and met him as he kissed her. He ran his hands down her body checking her for any injuries. When he didn’t hear her make any sound of pain he pulled her up and against him. Lou maneuvered herself until she was sitting in his lap.

She pulled away. “No kissing Sampson.”

Sinclair turned his head and jerked slightly at the bull in his face. He could swear Sampson was smiling.

He narrowed his eyes. “Are you trying to block me?”

Sampson lifted his lip.

“Keep it up and I won’t play with you.” Sinclair warned.

Sampson blew out a breath as if aggravated then moved back.

“See he does listen to you.” Lou kissed him on the cheek.

Sinclair focused on her. “So, it’s selective listening. Got it. Now let’s go play with them.”

“But I wanted to…” Lou pouted.

“Do you remember what happened last time when we left before playing with Sampson?”

Lou winced. “The bastard brooded and pouted. It’s not pretty when a bull broods and pouts.”

“Nope. And he kept supposedly accidently tripping me.” Sinclair glared at the bull. “I know it was intentional. He blamed me for distracting you.”

“It’s okay your made up.”

“After I bribed him. I’m not getting on his bull list again.” Sinclair said.

Lou stared at him then started to laugh. Ignoring her Sinclair helped her stand before he rose to join her.

“Let’s get playful with them.” He smirked. “Then we can go and have our own playful.”

Lou smiled. They went to Sampson and Delilah. Sinclair laced his fingers with hers.

“Are you a jogger or a runner or a photojogger or biker?” Michelle demanded.

David looked up from his ereader and blinked. “Why do I feel like I came into the middle or end of a conversation?”

“Just answer the question. I need to know if I need to get you a bike and photography equipment or jogging or running gear?” Michelle looked at her phone and texted.

“Again. I have no idea what you’re talking about.” David laughed.

Michelle eyed him. “Have you not checked your texts?”

“I’ve been reading.” David lifted his ereader.

“You you do tend to block everything else out when you are.” Michelle gestured. “Read the texts so you can get caught up.”

She perched on the arm of the chair he was sitting. David pulled her into his lap before he picked up his cell phone. She waited while he caught up on the texts that had been going back and forth.

“So let me get this straight. In addition to all the other things like the anniversary competition thing, bread, music, books, oatmeal, games and so on. There’s now a runner, jogger, photojogger or bilker thing.” David laughed. “For those people who don’t like to exercise, do they even realize biking is exercise?”

Michelle showed him the other thread of texts that were being exchanged. David read then laughed so hard until tears were rolling down his face.

“So they are aware that the joggers and runners were trying to be sneaky to make them exercise. And they are already plotting payback. Although they do like the idea of biking and know it will be fun.” David shook his head. “The people we know are priceless.”

“You mean weird.”

“Unique in their idiosyncrasies.”

“That’s a polite way of saying weird.” Michelle rolled her eyes. “Or using a hundred dollar word when a one cent word would do.”

“Or I do it since I love to see you get that little furrow between your eyes.” David kissed her between the eyes.

“You’re such a sap.”

“Only for you.” David snuggled her. “As for your earlier question. I know you don’t do traditional exercise. But in my case I like to be flexible. So I’ll rotate between the two. So when we go looking for bikes and photo equipment for me and you. I’ll also get some jogging or running stuff also so I can do either based on my mood.”

“Sounds good to me.” She kissed him on the cheek. “And I’m glad you know I don’t do traditional exercise.”

“The way you run around doing all that stuff for your career.” He snuggled her closer. “I get tired just looking at you. But biking, photojog, running or jogging can be a good pastime.”

“Don’t forget the heckling.” Michelle cackled. “I have some doozies I’m already thinking of.”

“I figured that’s what incentivized you.” David chuckled. “Whichever it is I’m with you forever.”

“With you forever.” Michelle leaned against him as she pulled up the first suggestion. “There are things available here in Rowan we can check out. But there is some links I found interesting.”

David held her as they planned.

Alessandro enjoyed the feeling of the wind against his skin. He inhaled deeply loving the scent of the air around him. Rowan no matter what time of year was always beautiful. Just like the woman who came off an adjacent trail. He stopped and ran in place.

“Come to join me.” He teased.

“I don’t jog as you know.” Melody wrinkled her nose. “When I woke and found that you were gone I decided to come find you. How can you even jog in this weather? It’s too hot to jog.”

“I knew you were up late last night so I decided not to wake you.” He jogged over to her and kissed her on the cheek. “No matter what time of year it is you say it’s whatever weathers it is to even jog.” He pointed out.

“True.” Melody laughed. “I prefer to photojog.” She held up her camera.

Alessandro knew that was what her family called it and had fondly adopted the phrase for her and his brother. Melody didn’t jog but she photojogged with him. Meaning she walked and took pictures as he jogged. He would usually do a loop and come back to meet up with her. Her sister Blake was usually his partner. While Luciano, his brother, who was dating Blake kept Melody company as they photojogged together. Which in no included jogging and was all about taking pictures.

“Where’s Blake and Luciano?” Melody took his picture.

He was used to her taking pictures of him. She claimed she needed a whole lot of pictures of him for her collection.

“There they are.” He said as he spotted them coming off another trail.

Blake was jogging while Luciano sauntered behind her snapping pictures. When Blake spotted him she came toward him. She joined him jogging in place.

“Let’s get our jog on and let’s leave these two to their photojog.” Blake rolled her eyes. “Maybe one day we can convince them to jog with us.”

“Never.” Melody and Luciano said simultaneously.

“Maybe you can get a bike so you can bike while we jog.” Alessandro suggested. “I sent you both some links this morning.”

“I saw that this morning and wondered what it was about.” Luciano frowned.

“It has something to do with someone he was speaking to yesterday.” Melody gestured with her hand. “Seems like in some other city he has some people we know who jog or run. They have a group of non-runners or non-joggers who bike with them.”

“Ok. I still don’t see the appeal.” Luciano took a picture of Blake.

“The appeal is the non-runners or non-joggers who bike heckle the runners or joggers.” Melody snickered. “Supposedly it’s to be motivational. I think is just hilarious.”

“Oh. Now I see the appeal.” Luciano looked contemplative. “I better check those bikes out.”

“We can go later. There’s a bike shop in downtown Rowan.” Melody bounced on her heels. “This is going to be fun.”

“Alessandro.” Blake hissed. “Why would you share that? It was between the runners and joggers. It was a joke.”

“I would share it with my operation forever.” Alessandro winked at Melody.

She blew him a kiss.

“Boy she has you wrapped around her finger.” Blake snickered.

“Among other things.” Alessandro imagined when he got her alone later.

Melody got very amorous after watching him exercise.

“Ewww… That’s my sister. I don’t need to know all of that.” Blake glared at him and jogged off.

“Like I don’t hear enough about you and my brother Luciano.” Alessandro followed her.

“Your brother is a sharer.” Blake laughed. “And he shares with me all the time.”

“If I can’t share with you about your sister. No talking about my brother in that.” Alessandro shuddered. “Whatever tone you’re using.”

He caught up with Blake.

“Can you believe the two of them are our operation forever?” Luciano mused.

“And we’re lucky to have them.” Melody laughed. “Especially with all the entertainment we’re about to have once we get the bikes. Let’s plan.”

Alessandro knew the idea would intrigue Melody.

“A sneaky way to get her to join us and not realize she’s exercising.” Blake said quietly as he caught up with her.

“Not exercise per say. But some activity we can all enjoy together.” Alessandro shrugged. “I love spending time with your sister.”

“Like I do with your brother.” Blake sighed. “Even though we couldn’t enjoy this. One of my favorite things together. I was fine with it.” She paused. “But I’m glad you figured out a way for them to take part.”

“Now if they let others take pictures.” Alessandro glanced at her and Blake had the same look of disbelief on her face he knew was on his. ”Yeah. Don’t think that will be happening. Unless we buy our own equipment.”

“They do tend to be a little possessive with their camera equipment.” Blake snorted.

“Maybe while they are plotting about bikes we can plot about getting some camera equipment.”

“Already bookmarked some stuff.” Blake nodded. “I casually asked Luciano and he had no clue why. We can surprise them one day and do a photojog instead of a jog jog.”

They continued to jog while they figured things out.

Blake wandered down the path enjoying the beautiful day. Although she had been living in Rowan a little bit she was still getting used to things. Especially the changes in her life. She glanced around the area noting the flowers that were so beautiful and the area so peaceful. She turned the corner and thought of Luciano and meeting him here. As if she conjured him up Luciano came from the adjacent path.

Blake smiled and went to him. “Are you following me?”

“Maybe.” He shrugged and hugged her. “I noticed that you had left. And you looked unsettled.”

Blake hugged him back. “Not unsettled. Thinking

She smiled. Of course he had noticed she left and noticed she was feeling things.

Blake hugged him back. “Not unsettled.” She corrected. “Thinking of my life now here in Rowan and with you.”

Luciano led her towards the bench. He sat them and just looked at her. He didn’t say a word just waited for her to speak.

“Sometimes you make assumptions. Like I assumed I was happy and knew where my life was going.” Blake laughed. “But I was so wrong. It wasn’t just finding you that changed me. It was coming back and finding the new me. The one that decided to live instead of going through the motions.” She sighed. “Coming here to Rowan was one of the best things I ever did. There’s something about the city. This city and the people.” She held his hands. “Something about you.”

Luciano shook his head. “Maybe it’s you. It’s something about you that’s special.”

“Maybe it’s you.” She put her finger over his mouth. “Shhhh… You need to accept compliments when they are given.”

He kissed her finger then lowered it. “Maybe it’s us.”

“Now that I can agree too.” Blake leaned her head against his shoulder. “Maybe it’s us finding each other.”

Chase stood in the dark and quietly waited. When he heard the door creak he narrowed his eyes. He still didn’t move as he waited for them to enter and sneakily move across the room. Although it was dark there was still enough light for him to see from his hidden place their movements. When they snagged the three items they did a little jig before heading for the door.

“Caught you.” He yelled.

“Dammit!” Paige screamed and placed her hand over her heart. “Are you trying to kill me? Chase, what are you doing hiding here in the dark?”

“Catching a sneak.” Chase flicked the light switch that was close to him. “No of course I haven’t been taking your chocolate.”

“I wouldn’t have to sneak and get some if someone would share.” Paige looked defiant. “You would think since we love each other. And share so much. Sharing some chocolate wouldn’t be such a big deal.” Paige took a bite of the chocolate she held staring him in the eye.

“It isn’t a big deal.” Chase came forward and put his hands on his hips. “The big deal is when I asked about the chocolate getting low. You pointedly claimed you hadn’t been eating any. That’s what made me suspicious that you were.” He shook his head. “I don’t have a problem sharing the chocolate with you.”

“You don’t.” Paige narrowed her eyes. “When you asked me about it you sounded so accusatory. I took that as you didn’t want to share.”

“You assumed.” Chase snorted. “Okay I will admit I was a little peeved you’d taken it. But you don’t have to sneak to take it. You’re free to take chocolate anytime. Although you claim you prefer caramel.”

“But… it tastes better when I sneak it.” Paige admitted.

“Like when I sneak taking some from your caramel.” Chase laughed. “It does taste better when it’s sneakily taken.”

“Ohhh… So it is you. I know it was looking low and wondered. I didn’t say anything but I did wonder.” Paige pointed her fingers at him.

“So we both have a sneaking thing.” Chase chuckled. “I keep discovering these things about you.”

“And I about you. That’s the fun of being in love. It’s more to love. Finding out things about each other.” Paige hugged him. “So… I’m going to keep sneaking your chocolate.”

“I’m going to keep sneaking your caramel.” Chase stated as he hugged her in return. “Hey maybe we can sneak from someone else.”

“Yeah. There’s come yummy treats people have. ” Paige nodded. “Let’s plan. Chocolate.” She offered a piece of her sneaky chocolate.

Kelsey turned and slipped. She could tell she was about to go down. Since it was a regular occurrence, she made sure not to try to grab anything so there were no catastrophes.

“This is gonna hurt.”

Sometimes it was best just to let it happen. She was grabbed and yanked up against a familiar broad chest. Kelsey gasped then lifted her head slightly and met familiar light green eyes. She stifled the sigh.

“As graceful as ever I see.” Dexter teased. “And I’ll always catch you if I’m around and close enough. I don’t want you to hurt any part of your delectable body.”

“You sweet talker you.” Kelsey chuckled and cupped his cheek. “I love a man who’s quick on his feet. Especially when he can help with my clumsiness.”

“And I love you and all your clumsiness. It gives me an excuse to hold you in my arms.” Dexter nuzzled her hand.

“You don’t need an excuse for that.” Kelsey rubbed her fingers along his lips. “Feel free to hold me anytime. Anytime at all. Kiss me to. And so much more.”

Dexter chuckled, a wicked sound that made heat fill her belly.

“The things you make me feel.” Kelsey tightened her hold on him. “You’re an unmistakable temptation.”

Dexter chuckled again. She tugged him closer and kissed him.

Ryson heard something and followed it. He stopped in the doorway of his music room listening to a clarinet being expertly played. Surprised he stared at the woman who had won his heart. Khandi was oblivious to him standing there. She was caught up in playing the clarinet. Ryson swayed as he listened to her playing one of his songs. Khandi looked up and her eyes widened. She stopped playing and lowered the instrument.

“I didn’t know you were there.” Khandi smiled sheepishly. “Sorry I noticed this new clarinet you had. And I couldn’t resist trying it out.”

“No. No need to apologize.” Ryson walked towards her. “I didn’t realize you could play the clarinet.”

“I played from time I was a kid. Also while in college. I was even part of the band.” Khandi chuckled.

“Really!” Ryson reached her and stopped. “How did I not know this?”

“I have many layers you don’t know about me.” Khandi said playfully.

“There are so many things I still have to learn about you.” Ryson smiled at her.

“And I about you.” Khandi went to put down the instrument.

“No. Let’s do something together.” Ryson suggested.

He saw the reluctance on her face.

“Come on and join me in the beauty of sound. Don’t tell me you’re intimidated to do something with me.” Ryson stifled his smirk.

He knew her well enough to know what her reaction to that statement would be.

Khandi’s eyes darkened and her nostrils flared.

He pushed a little bit more. “Just because I’m considered a musical genius you don’t have a need to be intimidated.”

“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing. All this talk about musical genius isn’t you. Although that’s what you are.” Khandi lifted an eyebrow. “Tweaking my need to prove you wrong is underhanded. Effective but underhanded.”

Ryson didn’t say a word. Since he had won he stared at her then started to sing. Khandi’s eyes darkened even more with the passion of her love for him.

“Of course you’re going to pick a love song.” Khandi lifted the clarinet to her lips.

She jumped in to the song matching him. Ryson stared at this fascinating woman who continued to surprise him. They had so much time together to learn about each other. And he was going to enjoy each and every moment. Continuing with now as they enjoyed the beauty of sound.

“You’re going to get me into so much trouble.” he said in that voice that was all silk and heat.

“Whenever I hear you speak I still think I hit my head,” Lou stated. “And you still sound just like Goliath from Gargoyles.”

“That’s one of my favorite cartoons.” Sinclair replied.

She went closer to her dream man. He was all hers. Lou inhaled and shuddered as his delicious scent of sandalwood and vanilla filled her.

“You always smell so good.” Louisa sighed. “I also still think at times this is a really good concussion dream. And then I realize nope this is now my life.” Lou sighed happily.

“Our life. I swear Lou I don’t know what you’ve done to me.” Sinclair sounded so disgruntled.

“I have no idea what you’re blaming me for. But…” Lou pouted. “What happened to my kiss? You usually look at me with that smoldering look of possession and you always kiss me. ” She poked him in his back then shoulder. “I love that. You’re not allowed to stop. You’re not allowed to withhold from me. Don’t make me get feisty with you. Then if I have to get physical which could get dicey.”

“No physical. I don’t want you to hurt yourself.” Sinclair said.

The man knew her to well. With her klutziness it would be iffy or more probable she’d hurt something instead of him. Not that she really wanted to hurt him.

“True. But why aren’t you looking at me. And my kiss.” Lou poked him again.

“Woman I swear you have bamboozled me.” Sinclair sighed then muttered. “There’s no escaping it. I’m going to just have to show her. I’m gone gone gone. Strangely I love that…maybe. Christ I have no idea. No getting all weepy or stuff like that. Promise me Lou.” Sinclair said firmly.

“Ok.” She said cautiously.

Lou had no idea why he was acting so strangely. Sinclair turned to face her and her eyes were immediately drawn to what he held. She could swear her heart exploded although she knew it wasn’t physically possible. Lou blinked then looked at him. Sinclair was trying to look all tough and firm. She looked back at what he held and no matter what he did he was failing.

“Oh my God you got me a puppy and a kitten.” Lou blinked and sniffled.

“No no crying.” Sinclair shook his head. “Christ who am I kidding. Get ready for more tears.” He shifted to the side.
Lou heard the barks and meows. She stepped forward and saw there was a box with more kittens and puppies in them.

“You got me many puppies and kittens.” Lou wailed.

“I should have said we’re fostering them until we can get them good homes.” Sinclair blew out a breath. “I should have thought of this before showing you. This is going to be a problem.”

“You’re so funny.” Lou patted him on the cheek. “That’s past you’s problem. Current and future you are going to enjoy having our new children. They can grow up together. Keep each other company.” Lou clapped her hands. “Ohhhh…my babies let’s go get you settled. We have a lot of shopping to do.”

“Lou, what have you done to me?” Sinclair whimpered.

“As you told me many times come into your life and changed it for the better.” Lou kissed him on the cheek.

She picked up the box and cooed at the new babies.

“Lou, you’re a perfect partner for me. I’m going to enjoy all the surprises you will certainly keep showing me.” Sinclair blew out a breath. “I have no regrets being with you. Even if you love adopting so many pets. At least I won’t have to worry about you with them like I do with Sampson and Delilah.”

“Keep hoping.” Lou laughed. “I can’t wait to introduce you to your siblings.” She said to her new pets. “Delilah is my cow and Sampson is my bull.” Lou turned away.

“What have I done?” Sinclair sounded horrified.

“No regrets.” Lou cackled.

Stepping outside the doorway of the building that housed her offices Chailyn was so relieved the day was finish. She paused and inhaled the crisp day. At least this time she wasn’t leaving when it was already dark outside.

“Chailyn.” That familiar baritone called to her.

“Mitchell.” Chailyn turned towards him.

Surprised yet pleased she watched as he came towards her. As always the way he moved was sexy and captured her attention. Mitchell stopped just before her and kissed her gently. Then he cupped her cheek.

“Caught you just in time.” Mitchell said. “Come with me.”

She didn’t even ask any questions just followed him to his vehicle. Mitchell opened her door and settled her in the seat before going around to the driver side. In moments he had them on their way.

“I know you’re tired. But instead of heading straight home I figured we could spend some time just being together.” Mitchell said as he drove.

Chailyn recognized the area he was heading to. “Sounds good to me.”

She settled into the seat. They talk to as he drove about random things. Soon when he parked, they got out, and strolling holding hands.

“Are you hungry?” Mitchell asked.

“Not yet.” Chailyn glanced at the various food trucks around the area. “We can grab something later.”

Mitchell nodded. They continue to the entrance of Riverside Falls Park. The park had many entrances you could enter based on which direction you came from. Rowan had many parks around the city and although there were others close to where her offices were located she knew why he had picked this one. They chatted as they strolled and before long she heard the first notes. As they entered the open area Chailyn noted there were quite a few people here.

She waved to a few people she or they knew. Mitchell gestured for her to wait a moment then he went over to one of their friends and retrieved something. When he returned Chailyn noticed it was a blanket. He led her a little bit away from the others before spreading the blanket on the ground. Mitchell helped her sit before settling beside her.

“So you were planning this?” She leaned against him. “How did you… You know what never mind. I’m sure somebody in the office spilled the beans that I was leaving.”

“I have my sources.” Mitchell chuckled softly. “We’ve been saying for weeks we wanted to come to one of these days but we haven’t gotten around to it. I didn’t want us to miss that so here we are.”

“This wasn’t what I had planned for today.” Chailyn squeezed his hand. “But it’s so much better.”

Mitchell made a soft sound and hugged her against his side. Chailyn relaxed against him as they listen to the music. As she listened Chailyn was grateful for this man who had just spontaneously brought her here.

“Let’s make a pact.” Chailyn laced her fingers with his. “That we won’t put off things like this. When we say we’re going to do it we’ll make time and plans.”

“I’m good with that.” Mitchell lifted their joined hands and kissed them. “So that’s the pact.”

“The pact.” Chailyn kissed they joined hands before turning her head and kissing him.

“Yep I’ve lost my mind. There’s no other explanation for why I’m up this early getting ready to host the monthly day of fun for the Kincaid sisters and their siblings, as well as Cassandra’s other siblings.” Calhoun glanced around at the setup he was making. “What happened to me?”

“Someone’s being dramatic.” Cassandra patted him on the back as she passed with more snacks.

“I blame you.” Calhoun crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. “You’re the one who’s done this to me. Made me this social person.”

“Don’t act like you don’t have things you do.” Cassandra turned to him and matched his pose. “Do we need to talk about the last time we hosted game night? After you volunteered us to be added to the rotation without consulting with me first.” She tapped her finger against her lips. “Also doing the same for movie night. What were you thinking man?”

“I got swept up. It’s not my fault. They suckered me into it.” Calhoun ran his hands through his hair. “You do one thing and then they suck you in.” He made the motions with his hands. “You know they are really competitive with the game night. And let’s not get started on the movie night folks.”

“Hmmm… I have no idea what competitive on a game night would look like.” Cassandra rolled her eyes.

“Okay okay I’ll give you the game night one.” Calhoun thought of the past days of fun they had hosted, attended or heard about. He shuddered. “I’m not even going to go there about your family.”

The monthly day of fun they had was all about connecting as a family with lots of fun things, eating and just being together. Many times….all the time it dissolved into competitiveness and many vowed never to take part again. But whenever they had one at whoever was hosting for the month people who could attend showed up. It grew as people became involved and became a couple like he had with Cassandra

“You better hope where we fall in the rotation doesn’t overlap in the same month. Or we’ll be hosting a few things in the same month.” Cassandra narrowed her eyes. “And one of those would be the movie night.”

“Fine. I should never let myself suckered in to the movie night. You think it would be the game night where they would get rowdy.” Calhoun sighed. “They do get rowdy for the game night. But it’s nothing like the movie night.” He shuddered again. “Some of the stories we’ve heard can’t be true can they.”

“It goes according to what you’ve heard. I know what we heard together and dude it’s… Wow.” Cassandra walked over to him and poked him in the chest. “There’s even a few video someplace around about the epic debates they’ve had about movies.” Cassandra blew out a breath. “What happened to me? I blame you.”

Calhoun stared at her as she returned his look. Then they started to laugh and held onto each other.

“Oh my God were an interesting influence on each other.” Cassandra wiped her eyes.
“We are. We’ll never be the same.” Calhoun smiled. “And I’m good with that.” He kissed her.

Cassandra retuned the kiss then pulled back. “Me too. Don’t volunteer us for stuff without discussing it with me first.” She warned.

“Ummm….starting from now.” Calhoun winced.

“What did you do?” Cassandra growled.

“I love you so much Cass. You have until the Christmas to come to terms with it.” Calhoun walked away quickly.

“You didn’t. I love you too but that’s not going to help you.” Cassandra words and tone spelled doom for him.

Although it did Calhoun couldn’t help but snicker. They would never be the same but at least they’d be together. In all the interesting moments of life.
