The Rhythm of Reading

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I was reading a book the other day and I found something I’ve noticed before. It had a rhythm. Almost like a beat I could feel resonating in me as I read. I was caught up in the movements of the words. Sort of like a dance. The book had me on the edge of my seat with the flow as it went through the steps. This rhythm helped make the picture of the characters and world I had in my mind even clearer. More three dimensional. I was able to connect with the story even more.

As I mentioned this isn’t the first time I noticed books that had a rhythm. The books I have found with it I tend to remember more and read often. The authors I have found with this rhythm in reading are on my automatic buy list.

Who are some authors that give you a rhythm while you read?

Firefighter Yasmine Van Cort is used to saving people and knows that sometimes, not everyone is rescued. Yet something about her last fire rescue keeps bothering her. She cannot forget the anguish of the man who lost his sister and brother-in-law, the man who is now the guardian of the one survivor of the horrible fire an innocent baby. Yasmine knows getting involved with those you save can be a bad idea, but she cannot resist checking on him. What she finds is an unexpected complication that will change her.

Sedeo Parker has lost the last of his family and now has to care for his infant niece. Distraught at the loss and the responsibility, he is feeling overwhelmed when the woman who saved his niece comes by. His mixed emotions of gratitude and fury she did not save everyone leave him reeling. The unexpected flash of desire for her only complicates things.

Yasmine knows that with her career, a real relationship is difficult at best. Add to that a victim of fire, and that makes it doubly so. Sedeo, after losing everything to fire, does not know if he can let himself become involved with a woman who fights the very thing he is afraid of. Together, they will have to decide if it’s worth it to take a chance on a wicked burn.

The beast normally quiet within him roars to life upon their first meeting, and he begins to wonder if the hunter has just become the hunted.

Kaida Miah Ayre is scared. Chased by ater malum, soul-eaters, the creatures who had murdered her mother, she has come, however reluctantly, to Savoy Valley and accepted the protection offered. Yet when she meets a man whose aura is very intense, and who makes her feel things she never believed she could experience, Kaida wonders if it’s just another ploy to get close to her and hurt her. She must come to terms with who and what she truly is.

Despite the suspicion and tension between them, passion erupts. They must learn to trust one another, and to trust in the powers they both possess, in order to defeat something much worse than they could have imagined. Sporadic Blogger

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Between the day job and my using what little time I have for writing I’ve been a sporadic blogger. Sorry. I blog at various places so if you don’t see any posts here. Check at one of the other places I blog at. Things have slowed down a little. Very little. I will try and blog here more often.

As I’ve mentioned a few times I’ve been using my little bit of free time writing. I have some news I will be posting on that in a few days. Have some other things that I can’t tell you about yet but hopefully soon.

Other than that not much else going on right now.

What have you been up too?

Finally Finished

Friday, March 6th, 2009

About a week ago I finally finished a book that I was working on. The reason I say finally finished is it usually doesn’t take me that long to finish a book. Now I am not talking about the editing before submission. I mean the first draft of the book. This one took a little longer due to various things seeming to work against me.

After with all the mishaps these last few weeks I was able to finally focus on my current work in progress. Focus and get it done. Put it to bed. It was such an exhilarating feeling. A feeling I never get tired off. Writing the end of the book then sitting back and marveling that what you envisioned is done. The moments right after writing The End is what I revel in the most. I took an idea brought it to life word by word. Page by page. Chapter after chapter through to the end.

Sicne I’ve just finished my current work in progress I’ve been taking a sometime off. Soon I know my mind will turn to think of what to work on next but at least for now I’m enjoying that I am finally finished.
