The cold weather phenomenon

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I’m blogging at the SIA Blog today. This is cross posted there.

This week has been a rollercoaster of weather all over. Heck the whole winter season has been slightly cold, colder, coldest and bundle up to the eyes with no skin showing at all cold. On day it is slightly cold people start to loosen up and walk around with less layers to cover them up. The Colder days get even more clothing added but you have a few diehards who still walk around with their coat open or run across the street to get something or so on. The coldest make more people add those layers and increase how fast people move to get from point A to B and the clothing get even more. Yet there are still a few who doesn’t mind the cold and go without clothing or very little.

Now on a day like today ‘bundle up to the eyes with no skin showing at all cold’ everyone runs for cover and walk like they are in a race. This is the cold that bites into you skin and makes you whimper.

As I rushed to get inside my day job this morning I thought of this the cold weather phenomenon. The stages of it and chuckled. Now an hour later inside I am still trying to get warm. When will this cold weather phenomenon be over.

Boy I hope it is soon until then I’ll be watching this phenomenon closely and bundling up to keep warm.

Try to keep warm today and if you are in a warm climate (sticking tongue out). Have a great day.

On the Shelf ~ Strangers in Death

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

strange180.jpgI finished Strangers in Death last week but I didn’t get a chance to talk about it since I was still reading on Wednesday. Of course you know I couldn’t not talk about it. {grin} As you know I have a love for the JD Robb’s In Death Series and Nora Roberts books in general. Each time I read more in Eve and Roarke I want more. They are a vibrant, complex and not perfect couple. Yes you heard me they are not perfect. And that is what makes them so wonderful. They show what it is to be human. Eve’s sometimes bafflement of Roarke’s love and his visceral reaction to her saying I love you are moments in a series that deals with death so great.

Strangers in Death explore money, love and marriage. With Eve this strikes close to home. Throughout the story the same questions keeps coming up. Which is more important love or money? What would you do for both? How much would someone give for either? Is it possible to hide how you feel about someone for many years?

These are the question asked and answered in this story. The killer in this book is not only cunning but cold. Methodically cold. This is something that tests Eve to prove to everyone who the killer is. With determination she builds her case one piece at a time. This was a battle of wills and who can outmaneuver who.

There was one scene with Roarke that stood out to me. As I am sure it probably did for others. Basically he said Eve wasn’t exhausted but revved to bring the killer down. The scene of Roarke going into a rage because ‘his wife’ was tapped until payday is what I mean by not being a perfect couple. Well if you’ve read the series Roarke is mega time infinity rich and there is no reason for Eve to not have any money. Eve didn’t even think to ask him for any and that made him angry and hurt. Eve didn’t understand the big deal but his hurt made her want to fix it yet she was still unwilling to give ground on not taking his money. This lead me to think what would I do in that position. I even asked a friend of mine and it lead to a very interesting discussion. I understood where Eve was coming from and Roarke too.

The other characters were all there although some were only a brief glimpse. Peabody, Feeney, McNab, Morris, Baxter, Trueheart, Charles and Dimarto (they had a major moment in the book). Also Cher Reo the ADA made another appearance and I am very curious about her. I hope we find out more about her in future books.

Strangers in Death was a great addition to the In Death Series and I anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

His fist clenched, thinking of Jasmine’s refusal to acknowledge that they had more than just amazing sex. Scowling, he slammed down the water on the marble counter and walked to the door off to the side of the kitchen.

Opening it, he stepped into a tastefully decorated bedroom. Reese stripped as he made his way to the bathroom. Turning on the shower, he stepped in and lathered up.

Why is she so damned stubborn? Everything can’t be her way.

Quickly, he stepped out of the shower and dried off, leaving the towel draped around his hips. Reese cut back through the kitchen, then the living room, going up the stairs to his bedroom. Entering his bedroom, he was startled, then pleased, to see Jasmine sleeping face down in bed. Reese felt as if his heart would burst out of his chest. Walking over to stand at the foot of the bed, he memorized her beautiful, sculpted face as she slept. The high cheekbones, soft, lush mouth, and stubborn chin, all leading down to her bare, smooth mocha shoulders.

Her soft breaths echoed in the room. Looking at her firm, naked leg sticking out of the covers, he was aware of blood rushing to his cock, His body throbbed with the need to claim her and make her completely his. He padded on silent feet to the dresser, stripping off the towel and retrieving some condoms.

Glancing up at the mirror above the cherry wood dresser, he saw his features tightened with desire, his eyes hardened with purpose. He felt the call of his mate. Stifling the growl that came to his throat, he returned to the bed. He kept one condom, throwing the rest on the nightstand. He went to the foot of the bed, ripping open the condom, then smoothing it onto his straining erection. Stroking himself, he gently removed the covers from Jasmine. She didn’t stir. Silently, he vowed that, after tonight, she would be his.

A weird feeling…

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Since I’ve gotten my release date for Conquering Jazz which is coming next week March 3, 2008 by the way. I’ve gotten this feeling of giddiness mixed anxious anticipation. Almost like it is a dream. I have a huge grin on my face and a weird feeling in my stomach. When I asked some other authors I know about it they all agreed that they get some variation of that sort of feeling. They laughed about it and said it was normal. This was a relief to me.

So of course you know I had to ask the next obvious question. Does the feeling fade? Again they chuckled and the basic consensus was no. Although it would over time – well if you have a continued career as an author – stop seeming as if it is a dream and very real. Then there would be a whole new level of giddiness mixed anxious anticipation. When they saw my look they laughed even harder. I can’t even fathom another level of this weird feeling but you know what I look forward to it. {Grin}

E-book Reader Wager ~ Wicked Laughter

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

sony-portable-reader-system1thumbnail.jpgCome on sing it with me.

I am the champion
I am the champion
Of a Sony E-Book Reader

Yeah I won. {Wicked Laugh} The friendly wager I had with Taige on who could finish reading the new JD Robb book Strangers in Death is done. And I am the victor. (booty shake) Oh yeah. The book was good and I won the e-book reader. Now my not having ink to print out my ebooks is over. The reader is ordered and on the way to my house. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. The pic is a holder until I get the real thing then I’m taking pic for your to see.

Now I have to admit something. I rarely gamble or bet on anything and neither does Taige. We always complain to each other that we don’t win anyway. LOL. Well this time I won for a change and although Taige loss she won in a way. She finally made a choice of the e-book reader she wanted. LOL.

And since me and Taige are wacky we already have another bet we’re hashing out the details on. We already know the prize for this one. A shopping spree for more books for our e book readers. (rubbing hands greedily)

Until then I’m going to bask in my victory. {humming I am the champion under my breath}

So I have a bet going with Taige refer to my blog here for details. It’s concerning the latest In death book, Stanger’s in Death. Since I plan to win the bet I have to get back to reading. All I can say is the story is great. I’m almost done with the book. Now back to reading so I can win {grin}

What have you been reading?

Here is an excerpt from my novel Relative Interest. A sneak peek. This is not posted to my site.

Relative Interest
By: McKenna Jeffries
Series: Sultry Nights ~ Book 3
Genre: Contemporary

Un-Edited Excerpt

Fury like she had never felt before licked up her spine as her fist clenched and she took a step forward.

“You really think you know what I want. You don’t know anything about me. ” She spaced out each word gritting her teeth.

The cool look he shot her only added to her anger. She took another step towards him until she was almost in his face. Genesis ignored the tug of passion she felt at his nearness.

“Nobody tell me what to do especially you.” A sudden tiredness overcame her. She couldn’t go through this again. “Just get the hell out and stay away from me.”

Turning she walked away from him. Hunter grabbed her and turned her around to face him. Instinctively she swung. He caught her hand and pulled her into him. Furious she fought him. He jerked her off her feet even in his anger he was gentle. The breath caught in her lungs as she felt the hard masculine body against her’s. The anger in his amber eyes gave her a slight thrill.

“I can damn well do what I want. When you’re with me you’re mine.” His tone was cold and precise.

Opening her mouth to curse him out the words stalled in her throat as he continued.

“Like I am yours Genesis. Yours.” The words seemed to be dragged out of him. “No one will get between us. No man will touch you as long as your mine. Damn you.” His lips crashed against her.

Unable to help herself she locked her arms around his head and kissed him back with a passion to equal his own.
